By default, we make new RI commitments in the management account, although we can target any single AWS account in the Organization. From a discount perspective, it doesn’t matter which account RIs live in as applicability floats across accounts. Where it matters is RI exchanges since RIs can not be exchanged across accounts. Spreading out RIs bifurcates your RI portfolio across accounts and limits exchange flexibility, which is why we target a single account. If you have a desire to reconstitute or consolidate an existing RI portfolio in a different account, we can configure ProsperOps to point to that account and the RI portfolio will converge there over time.
For Savings Plans, we'll work with you to adopt the best practice of running Savings Plans in an empty AWS account.
