Azure Action Subscription Selection

Azure Reservation and Savings Plan purchases must be executed within the context of a subscription. In ProsperOps, we refer to this as the “Action Subscription”.

Azure places restrictions on certain subscriptions that prevent commitment purchases for specific region, instance type combinations. We must operate within a subscription without restrictions to execute purchases and exchanges to optimize your portfolio.

Committing to a single action subscription for all commitment transactions has resulted in transaction failures, causing multiple retries, and leading to support requests To ensure we are able to support you fully, we do two things:

  1. Determine the Best Action Subscription
    • Upon onboarding, we execute an analysis against all subscriptions in your primary tenant and determine which one(s) have the least restrictions for purchasing SKUs that are in use on your account. The action subscription is set to this subscription.
  2. Maintain Subscription Flexibility
    • In the event we encounter restrictions when executing purchases or reservations, we re-evaluate the restrictions on all subscriptions in the primary tenant. Based on that analysis, we will leverage a subscription without restrictions to execute the purchase.
